Beauty World Cha Cha Cha!
Went to watch Beauty World on its opening night with ivy and it was F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!!! Worth every single cent I paid! The songs were wonderful, the costumes were razzle dazzle, the actors and actresses were great (Irene Ang was so funny!!!) and the performance was stupendous!
My new resolution is to support the local arts scene by watching more of their productions. As I watched the closing curtain, I suddenly felt proud of Singlish. The musical had a mix of Singlish, Cantonese and all the other rojak languages typical of colloquial dialogue in Singapore. I loved it. Singlish is truly unique. Where else can you find a language that combines a dozen other languages and still make sense? We have brought the word 'lah' to new heights and we must be proud of that!
I understand the need to speak proper English and understand words such as 'obfuscate', 'erudite' and 'etesian' but Singlish is just so much easier! Just say 'don't confuse me leh!' or 'wah! that scholar very chim!' or 'every year got summer wind blow lor.'
Anyway, went for supper at glutton bay after the musical. Oh yah! Two of the dancers were people I was acquainted with in SAJC! What a small world! Harharhar...well...at least they are living out their dreams. I feel so underachieving compared to them. I must have a dream. Will sleep on it tonight. Hmmm....
